Who Likes Granola?

Who likes Granola? Me, me, me! βœ‹

As I look through job descriptions I often come across posts πŸ“Œ where obviously the person posting the position does not know what they really want, need or doesn't know a lot about graphic design and marketing design jobs.❓ Not a great first impression when deciding if I would want to work with a company. πŸ˜³

Like in many job sectors, skills and knowledge vary. Packaging Design is a skill I wish I had, but do not ... yet. I come across jobs that are asking for a graphic designer who can design logos, social posts, do 3D motion graphics, print and and digital marketing and packaging design.

Although designers are wizards πŸ§™β€β™€οΈ at being able to do different aspects of design and know more programs than they can count to help make it all happen, they all require very special knowledge. πŸ’‘ 🧠

Let's look at the redesign of Sweet Home Farm's pecan maple granola, which is delicious! πŸ˜‹ In the images below the box on the left is the new design. There are a lot of FDA packaging rules, marketing and human psychology, color theory, client management, design skills, software, computer skills, file and printing management expertise, and let's hope there is a brand guide to follow or they have to make a lot more decisions on the fly.

It’s pretty clear the redesign was needed to focus and not overwhelm a customer. Hallelujah! πŸ™ They fixed the location of the logo so you can see it when the product is on the shelf. Where I buy this product it is on the top shelf where I can barely reach it so I never saw the logo until now, which has been simplified and made more flexible. πŸ’–

I am sure a packaging designer can do social media post designs, business card and letterhead layout, maybe even email marketing templates. But if they can do all that, what do they do well?

And if they can also do 3D graphics, use After Effects and motion design make sure you are paying closer to πŸ’²150k because you are getting more than one person’s position out of them. Please make sure you don’t burn them out.

If you are needing help deciding what type of designer you may need for a project, reach out. πŸ“ž πŸ“§ I’d be happy to guide you. πŸ—Ί
