Too Many Don’t Get The Game of Soccer: I can Help

Here I am with Carles Puyol, Spain and FC Barcelona legend. While other marquee stars like Thierry Henry, Xavi, Iniesta, and Lionel Messi were also around, I deliberately sought out team captain Puyol—recognizing his profound, often understated leadership and pivotal influence in shaping one of the greatest soccer teams in history.

Recently someone told me how high level executives representing one of the world's most recognizable consumer brands, a FIFA World Cup 2026™ - Canada, Mexico and the United States Partner, were attending a high profile soccer game here in the U.S. and they apparently didn't know much about the game, nor did they seem that much interested.

As someone who has played, coached and followed the game all my life here in the States and in Europe I didn't find this that surprising.

My first job in NYC was working in advertising, supporting the UPS and Mastercard (then a FIFA World Cup sponsor) account teams. Ahead of the '94 World Cup I was asked to help the creative team responsible for developing the Mastercard campaign for the USA-hosted event. The (very talented) senior copywriter and art director knew little about soccer, so I was all-too-glad to help them understand the game and the tournament better, and to grasp its significance. It was a dream assignment.

Fast-forward to 2025 and it seems that a lack of awareness of the importance and impact of The Beautiful Game persists domestically.

The World Cup is coming, and marketers should not be caught flat-footed and watch opportunities pass like a goalie rooted to their spot watching the ball fly into their net.

As a digital marketing and brand strategist with deep knowledge of soccer culture in the U.S. and abroad, I am available to help enterprises, brands, and marketing entities prepare impactful campaigns and engagement strategies ahead of FIFA 2026. Whether it’s educating your team on the game’s significance, crafting culturally authentic messaging, or aligning marketing efforts to capture the attention of passionate soccer fans, I can help ensure your organization scores big with this global event. Reach out to discuss how we can elevate your World Cup marketing efforts and make the most of this extraordinary opportunity!
